1830 England, grown by retired brewer and horticulturist Richard Cox. Cox Orange Pippin is used in England as a dessert apple. Medium sized apple, red and yellow, usually striped. The flesh is yellow, firm, crisp, very juicy, richly aromatic and some say almost spicy. Flavor is enhanced when fruit ripens off the tree. When Cox Orange Pippin apples are ripe they can be shaken, the seeds make a rattling sound since the seeds are loosely secured in the apple core.
